Yet Another Sham Verdict by Zenawi’s Kangaroo Court

The kangaroo court of the illegitimate and ethnocentric regime in Ethiopia has handed down a “guilty verdict” against the top leadership of Ginbot 7, the Movement for Justice, Freedom and Democracy. In the show trial referred to as “ The case of General Tefera Mamo et al” we have witnessed the same old discredited pattern of a rogue regime concocting false charges, building its case against its political opponents based on confessions obtained under duress, parading false witnesses and then convicting them to death or to long prison terms. We have seen this charade before and we will continue to see it again until Ethiopians bring an end to the 18 years of misrule by the ethnocentric dictatorship of the Tigrai People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

The sham trial against the patriotic and highly decorated General Tefera Mamo and the other defendants will resume on August 26, and Ethiopians know the verdict has already been signed, sealed and delivered to the black robbed henchmen at the kangaroo court. Until Ethiopia, once again, joins the community of civilized nations where the rule of law is respected and the independence of the judiciary is firmly established, Zenawi’s rule by diktat akin to Hiltler and Mussolini will continue for the foreseeable future.

Ginbot 7 strongly believes that the illegitimate regime of Meles Zenawi that terrorizes its citizens, tortures its political prisoners in contravention of its own constitution and international human rights laws that it has ratified, that willfully murders its real and perceived enemies, commits genocide and collective punishment against its citizens and a regime that is implicated in war crimes and crimes against humanity has neither the mandate to rule Ethiopia nor the legal and moral authority to sit in judgement against any Ethiopian citizen.

Ginbot 7 strongly condemns the egregious violations of the human rights and civil liberties of these political prisoners and calls on all who subscribe to democratic values and to the protection of universal human rights to stand with the Ethiopian people in their fight against this brutal dictatorship.

Once again, Ginbot 7 reaffirms its solemn promise to the Ethiopian people that it will continue to lead the struggle to speed up the demise of the brutal dictatorship of Meles Zenawi and his henchmen.
